La presente norma è la versione ufficiale della norma europea EN 749 (edizione settembre 2004) e tiene conto dell'errata corrige dell'ottobre 2005 (AC:2005). La norma specifica i requisiti di funzionalità e i requisiti di sicurezza relativi a 2 tipi di porte da pallamano utilizzate durante gli allenamenti e le partite. La norma è applicabile anche alle porte per hockey al coperto.

Diese ÖNORM ist gemeinsam mit der ÖNORM EN 749 \"Spielfeldgeräte - Handballtore - Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren einschließlich Sicherheit\" anzuwenden.Über die in der ÖNORM EN 749 festgelegten Anforderungen an Handballtore hinausgehend, werden in dieser ÖNORM zu-sätzlich Anforderungen an ein freistehendes, kippsicheres Tor (Typ 3), das über keinerlei Bodenbefestigung verfügt, sowie ein zur Wand rückrollbares Tor (Typ 4) festgelegt.Bezüglich der Eigenschaften und Konstruktionsmerkmale von Toren der Typen 3 und 4, die nicht in dieser ÖNORM festge-legt sind, ist ÖNORM EN 749 anzuwenden.
