本标准规定了长期保存于图书馆、档案馆及其他环境中文献的书写字迹、打印字迹、复印字迹耐久性和耐用性的要求与测试方法。本标准适用于：--文献纸张上的书写字迹、打印字迹和复印字迹；--单色字迹和多色字迹。本标准不适用于：--保存在不良环境中的文献字迹，如：水浸、高温、高湿及由此而导致的微生物生长、辐射（如光）、严重污染等；--法律文件，以真实性为优先考虑因素的字迹，如：银行文件；--摄影中涉及的照片文件；--因颜色稍有变化便会使信息内容受到影响的文件。多色字迹的信息内容宜被保留，但不必要保留其全部艺术品质。
