Only the elements that need to be specified to achieve an interoperable low-cost platform are included in these specifications. It is intended that each service provider can define and evolve a distinct portfolio of competitive services using the 'bricks' defined in the Recommendations with downloadable software configuration.VDSL is referenced throughout the Supplement as the physical layer technology; however, the architectural specifications contained herein could be equally applicable to CPE and Access Networks employing other broadband physical layer technologies.
